On the Possible Origins of the Dirac Equation
Abstract
Despite its great success, the origins of the Dirac equation remain a mystery. For example, why does this equation exist and what does it tell us about the nature of spacetime or the World? Dirac's derivation requires that there exists a first order differential equation which upon squaring reproduces the Klein-Gordon equation. This by itself does not offer clues as to the reason for its existence. This article explores the possible origins of the Dirac equation from the perspective of a proposed Unified Field Theory described herein.
